Uplifting Families
As a New Yorker, I am profoundly moved by the extraordinary response of LIFT's community to ensure a strong safety net for those in need. And I am particularly proud that LIFT has been able to serve our clients without interruption over these difficult months. Thanks to you and the support of our talented staff, LIFT has enabled our clients to receive legal advice and guidance at a time when the Family Court is hearing only a limited number of virtual cases.
Many of LIFT’s clients have lost their jobs, cannot pay child support and are worried about mounting arrears. Others are caught in violent relationships while isolated at home, often with their abusers. Still others fear sending their children to visit a co-parent who is a frontline worker and is not being adequately protected from the virus.
These are urgent issues, now. We are in unprecedented territory and working hard and creatively to help these families. We are also preparing our clients for when the courts reopen fully, as we know there will be enormous demand and need. That is why it is critical that LIFT remains open and easily accessible.
